Royal Tunbridge Wells

An elegant historic spa town, Royal Tunbridge Wells is set amongst some of the most beautiful countryside of Southern England with fine woods and hills rolling across the High Weald. An administrative centre for this part of Kent, it is well known for the Pantiles alongside its springs and the common which extends almost to the town centre.

With excellent communications on the A21 and M25/M2 link, a commuter rail link making London only 45 minutes away, Heathrow and Gatwick international airports and Ashford international rail terminal nearby. The town boasts high class shops and restaurants in abundance, it is a natural tourist centre for the lovely part of the Garden of England.

History of Tunbridge Wells

Tunbridge Wells was first recognised as a spa town in the early 17th century. Queen Henrietta Maria came to convalesce after the birth of her baby (later Charles II). In 1909 Edward VII granted the town its 'Royal' prefix.

The famous Pantiles were started in 1687 and the town continued to flourish during the 18th century with Beau Nash of Bath becoming Master of Ceremonies for the town, organising a series of sumptuous seasons.

In the19th century the town grew with the middle classes and professional people finding it a highly desirable place to live and Decimus Burton, architect and planner, created a new garden city that was the fame of Victorian England.
